Marta Fiori Carones will read a mini-course of lectures
"Foundation of arithmetic from a historical perspective" in English. The course will be held offline at NSU. The location of the event will be known later and will be shared with the participants who have registered for the course via the link .
The course will be devoted to the analysis of three characterizations of natural numbers introduced by Dedekind, Frege and Peano at the end of the 19th century. After a brief introduction to the state of mathematics in the second half of the 19th century, we will examine each of the three characterizations in more detail, as well as the philosophical and mathematical assumptions that allow for them.
