鈥� a seminar of the
Mathematical Center in Akademgorodok and , the purpose of which is to give students a general idea of 鈥嬧�媡he areas of research carried out by scientists from the Novosibirsk Scientific Center, as well as Russia and the whole world. The emphasis in the reports is placed on the accessibility of the presentation of the material to a wide circle of the mathematical community, and only then on the detailing of the mathematical content.
At the next Colloquium on
September 8 at 4:30 pm Alexander D. Mednykh (D.Sc., Head of the Chair of Function Theory of Department of Mathematics and Mechanics of NSU, Head of the Laboratory of Function Theory of Sobolev Institute of Mathematics) will present a talk
"Combinatorial methods in the topology of small dimensions".
The purpose of the talk is to talk about enumerative combinatorics that arises in the topology of small dimensions, i.e. in graph theory, the theory of Riemann surfaces and in the theory of three-dimensional manifolds. The results of the last decades obtained by the author and his colleagues will be presented, and it will be told about the motives that led to these results, how new ideas arose to prove them, and what external circumstances made it possible to successfully cope with the tasks set.
