Next seminar "Actual problems of applied mathematics" will be held on April 18

The next seminar  will be held on April 18 at 5:00 pm (UTC+7).
Seminar heads: RAS academician I. A. Taimanov, RAS corresponding member S. I. Kabanikhin, RAS corresponding member A. E. Mironov, Doctor of physical and mathematical sciences M. A. Shishlenin.

A. R. Kasimov (Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology) will give a talk "Some Problems of the Modern Theory of Nonstationary Detonation".

The report will consider the problems of propagation of a one-dimensional detonation wave in a gas mixture with properties periodically varying in space, such as inhomogeneities of temperature or fuel concentration. It is known that in a homogeneous medium a one-dimensional detonation can propagate unsteadily at a speed that performs regular or chaotic oscillations. The question arises of the influence of inhomogeneities in the combustible mixture on such detonation dynamics. Our studies of this issue are based on high-precision numerical calculations of the Euler equations of gas dynamics of reacting media, as well as the Burgers model equation with a reaction. Synchronization effects, new for detonation, and the appearance of Arnold's tongues and the devil's stairs were found. The problem of constructing a qualitative model for describing the transition of a slow combustion wave to detonation will also be considered.

Seminar will be held in room 303 of Sobolev Institute of Mathematics SB RAS.
