On February 20-29, with the support of the PDMI RAS and the Mathematical Center in Akademgorodok, an open course of lectures “Fundamentals of Cryptanalysis” was held at the Computer Science Club at NSU

The course “Fundamentals of Cryptanalysis” was taught by Natalya Nikolaevna Tokareva, Ph.D., senior researcher at Sobolev Institute of Mathematics, the head of the JetBrains Research Cryptography Laboratory, the head of the Cryptographic Center (Novosibirsk), associate professor at NSU.

The course was devoted to modern methods of cryptanalysis of symmetric and asymmetric ciphers. The lectures examined universal methods of cryptanalysis, statistical and algebraic attacks, attacks on third-party channels (the so-called "dishonest" cryptanalysis), and examined beautiful mathematical problems that are caused by each of the methods. In cryptanalysis of asymmetric cryptosystems, two basic problems were dealt with — factorization and discrete logarithm.

Reference:
Cryptanalysis is a scientific and practical activity for the study of cryptographic algorithms in order to obtain reasonable estimates of their cryptographic strength. An algorithm is considered cryptographically robust if a cryptanalysis method based on full enumeration of keys is ineffective for it and there are no (or unknown) other faster methods of its cryptanalysis. Any more effective method of cryptanalysis reduces the theoretical evaluation of the cipher and is a variant of its “hacking”. But it may well remain unrealizable from a practical point of view.
