A mini-course by the invited speaker I.A. Panin dealt with the questions of geometry of projective and real spaces, the theory of vector bundles and their characteristic classes. He spoke about construction of Hopf bundles over a real and complex projective spaces, construction of Chern classes, and Stiefel-Whitney class of a linear real bundle. The lectures were aimed at those interested in algebraic topology; they provide foundation to understanding important methods for solving problems from other areas of mathematics and physics.
The lectures were attended by 30 students, including students of the Department of Mechanics and Mathematics and Physics Department of NSU, undergraduate and graduate students, as well as researchers at the Sobolev Institute of Mathematics of SB RAS with the aim of improving their knowledge and skills in the field of geometry and topology.
