The meeting was attended by N. A. Kolchanov, academician of the RAS, scientific adviser of ICG SB RAS; A. E. Trubacheva, deputy director for organizational and educational activities of ICG SB RAS; D. Afonnikov, leading researcher of ICG SB RAS; E. P. Vdovin, director of Mathematical Center in Akademgorodok, deputy director for scientific work of IM SB RAS; I. V. Marchuk, director of the International Mathematical Center of NSU, dean of the Department of Mathematics and Mechanics of NSU; A. V. Karpenko, deputy director of the IMC of NSU, deputy dean of the DMM of NSU; I. I. Takhonov, deputy director of the IMC of NSU, head of the teaching department of DMM of NSU; P. G. Emelyanov, deputy dean for master’s degree programs of the DMM of NSU.
Within the framework of the meeting, the prospects for interaction between the Centers were considered, in particular, the launch in 2020 of a new master's program in the field of bioinformatics.
When designing educational programs at the master's level, the most important thing is to find interesting topics of potential research and choose specific academic tutors for students. Cooperation between our Centers can give rise to fruitful communications», commented I. V. Marchuk, the dean of the DMM of NSU.
It is impossible to provide high-quality education without constant communication with advanced scientific research; therefore, we need to expand the range of joint scientific work in the field of bioinformatics», agreed E. P. Vdovin, director of MCA.
Academician N. A. Kolchanov briefly covered the history of the development of scientific research in the field of bioinformatics at the Novosibirsk Scientific Center, the role of life sciences in the overall picture of the world, and also outlined the prospects and scale of joint activities within the framework of cooperation between the Centers.
It is not only about student training, but also about creating mechanisms for interaction. Close contacts between the mathematical and genomic centers will allow us to quickly respond to modern challenges. Progress in the development of bioinformatics at present will be due to the creation of breakout mathematical algorithms and the use of computing power. This will allow us to move to a new extent of modeling of biological processes at the level of cells, organisms and populations», said academician N. A. Kolchanov.
