On May 17–21, 2021, a participant in the research project "Differential Equations and Dynamical Systems" of the Mathematical center in Akademgorodok, candidate of physics and mathematics, associate professor Inessa I. Matveeva read a series of lectures "Differential-Difference Equations in Examples and Problems" for students of Polotsk State University (Republic of Belarus). The visit took place within the framework of the international academic mobility program at the invitation of the Department of Mathematics and Computer Security of Polotsk State University.
In the presented cycle of lectures, I. Matveeva spoke about the methods of constructing fundamental systems of solutions of high-order differential equations with constant coefficients. A special system of y-functions allows not only to easily find solutions to homogeneous and inhomogeneous equations, but also has a number of important applications in computational linear algebra. Inessa Matveeva spoke about the asymptotic stability of solutions of ordinary differential equations and equations with retarded arguments. Spectral criteria, Lyapunov's criterion, stability conditions using special weighted integrals of Lyapunov type, Lyapunov-Krasovsky functionals were indicated. Estimates that characterize the rate of decay of solutions at infinity are established. Particular attention was paid to the use of theoretical results for numerical studies of stability. In particular, I. I. Matveeva showed with specific examples that it is not always possible to rely on a computer and specialized mathematical program complexes, since numerical calculations can sometimes lead to incorrect results and cause gross errors when solving important problems.
