International conference SIBECRYPT-2021 "Cryptography and Computer Security" was held at NSU

SIBECRYPT is one of the top conferences on cryptography and computer security in Russia, annually held in different cities of Siberia. Its goal is to discuss fundamental mathematical problems of cryptography and information protection in computer systems and networks, exchange scientific results on the development of theoretical foundations and the creation of software and hardware for computer security.

The support of the conference was granted by the International Mathematical Center in Akademgorodok, Tomsk State University, Kovalevskaya North-West Centre of Mathematical Research. The organizing committee gathered not only members from the ³Ô¹Ï¹ÙÍø and Sobolev Institute of Mathematics, but also from the Institute of Cryptography, Communications and Informatics of the Russian Federation Security Service Federal Academy, Russian Federation Cryptography Academy, Moscow State University.

This year was the first when the conference was held without its creator and permanent chairman of the program committee, Gennady Petrovich Agibalov. Gennady Petrovich made invaluable contribution to laying the foundation for cryptography in Siberia. He created a brilliant department of cryptography and computer security at TSU, founded the scientific journal Applied Discrete Mathematics, initiated the SIBECRYPT conference, and selflessly gave his time and energy to students. From now on the conference is dedicated to his memory.

A rich program was prepared for participants from Budapest, Minsk, Moscow, Novosibirsk, Tomsk, Kaliningrad, Taganrog, Krasnoyarsk, Irkutsk, Saratov, Rostov-on-Don, Omsk and Barnaul: plenary and small talks, an evening club session, a sports play, and excursions. In total, about 50 specialists from Russia, Belarus and Hungary took part in the conference.

Natalya Tokareva, Associate Professor of NSU, Chairman of the Organizing Committee of the NSUCRYPTO olympiad:

It is difficult to single out the most outstanding talk. In my opinion, the most interesting discussions are held on the sidelines. As a rule, these are additions to the official talks and new topics of research that have not yet been completed. Yet, I would like to note the plenary talks by S. V. Agievich (Minsk) "XS-schemes: hiding clock oracles and other issues" and A. V. Cheremushkin (Moscow) "Linear decomposition of functions of p-valued logic". Among the small talks, very interesting were the reports on hiding information in images (the topic is far from new) and new original methods of recovering such information; on approaches to the construction of modern cipher components and related mathematical problems; on public key cryptosystems, such as the McEliece cryptosystem, and their strength: this topic was presented by participants from Kaliningrad and Budapest.

Professor Gabor P. Nagy, doctor of mathematics, head of the department of algebra at the Budapest University of Technical and Economic Sciences, noted:

I enjoyed every minute of this conference, thank you for your efforts and hospitality.

Gabor P. Nagy was also the winner of NSUCRYPTO Olympiad. Together with his colleagues, he solved one of the open problems of past Olympiads. In the solemn atmosphere of the conference, he was awarded a special prize from the program committee of the Olympiad.
