"Innovator's Navigator" is a pre-acceleration program for young startups and future leaders of scientific and technological projects. Its main goal is to support the best students, postgraduates and young scientists interested in creating and developing scientific and technological projects via accelerating the commercialization of ideas and integrating them into innovative development programs. As a result of four days of intensive work, semifinal and final pitches were held, and three projects of NSU students won prizes.
Silver in the competition was taken by the project of NSU Engineering School's students
"Genvironment". Its objective consists of 3 tasks: to create a mathematical model for personalizing genetic tests, to construct an algorithm that produces risk matrices for decoding DNA sections and to make a questionnaire about human habits and environment. Biotech companies will be able to take this model and predict risks of diabetes or heart failure.
Daria Shestakova, head of the Genvironment project, shared her impressions and plans:
Since last year I started thinking about a project in the field of bioinformatics. In September, I posted into the Engineering School chat an idea of gathering everyone who is interested to genetics and thinking about how to implement a project in this direction. All in all, 7 people responded to my call, among whom were Rostislav Gaidukov, Nazar Konovalov, Anton Konev and Danil Tishchenko — those who are now working with me in a team. On the "Navigator", we got a good charge and an incentive to work further. Probably the most difficult part of the work is still ahead — the implementation. We are planning to conduct several interviews with doctors and representatives of genetic companies. Then we will start constructing the main algorithm using the example of diabetes.
The absolute winner of "Innovator's navigator" was the "ChemIT + Virtual Laboratory" project — educational software in chemistry for visual demonstration of educational material during classes. It was developed by a team of students from the Department of Natural Sciences of NSU under the leadership of
Alexander Snadin and
Alexander Romanov.
Another prize-winner was the team that proposed the idea of the CostumExchange B2B service for renting theatrical costumes and props. Their project manager is a 1st year master's student at the Department of Economics of NSU,
Katerina Tagiltseva.
