On June 6 at the Sobolev Institute of Mathematics (Novosibirsk, Russia) a conference
“Women in Mathematics”, which was dedicated to
the International Day of Women in Mathematics, was held.
The International Day of Women in Mathematics was established in 2018 and is celebrated on May 12th. The date was chosen because May 12 is the birthday of Iranian-born mathematician
Mariam Mirzakhani, the first and so far the only woman to win the Fields Prize. After her death as a result of a serious illness in 2017, the Women's Committee of the Iranian Mathematical Society took the initiative to establish the International Day of Women in Mathematics in her honor. The initiative was supported in 2018 at the World Meeting of Women in Mathematics, which was held as part of the International Congress of Mathematicians in Rio de Janeiro (Brazil).
The organizers of the conference "Women in Mathematics" are the Sobolev Institute of Mathematics, ԹϹ and the Mathematical Center in Akademgorodok. The organizing committee of the conference was headed by
I. I. Matveeva, who is the coordinator from Russia in the Association "European Women in Mathematics" (EWM) and the representative of Russia from the Committee of Women in Mathematics (CWM) at the International Congress of Mathematics (ICM).
At the opening of the conference on June 6, 2022, the Director of the Mathematical Center in Akademgorodok
Evgeny. P. Vdovin and the Dean of the Department of Mathematics and Mechanics of the ԹϹ
Igor. V. Marchuk delivered a welcoming speech. They noted the importance of this conference, a wide range of presentations, and expressed their hope that such conferences would be held regularly.
The first conference "Women in Mathematics" was held on May 12, 2021, at which scientific reports were presented by representatives of the laboratories of the Sobolev Institute of Mathematics in various areas of mathematics. This year, young scientists, graduate students and undergraduates of the Sobolev Institute of Mathematics and ԹϹ:
- S. M. Shperling “The knapsack problem with rectangular objects under restrictions on the location of the center of gravity”;
- L. S. Minushkina “On invariant surfaces in phase portraits of models of ring gene networks”;
- E. A. Shaporina “Automorphisms of some cyclic extensions of free groups”;
- L. A. Grunvald “Existence of a hyperbolic structure at the trefoil node with a bridge”;
- I. S. Khilchuk, D. A. Zyubina “On correlation-immune functions with maximum algebraic immunity”;
- A. D. Shelepova “On the asymptotics of the probability of non-exit of a non-homogeneous generalized renewal process beyond a non-increasing boundary”;
- V. V. Shemetova "Boundary Value Problems for a Pseudohyperbolic Equation";
- A. V. Panasenko "Extreme problems and computational technologies for data analysis";
- P. M. Agzyamova “Golden Ratio: Boundary of Normality for the Open Shop Problem with Routing and Proportional Durations of Operations”;
- S. Guan "On some aspects of mathematical modeling of flows of polymeric liquids";
- D. A. Kondakova "Perfect colorings of the generalized Petersen graph - up to 10 colors";
- E. I. Khlestova “Arithmetic decidability of countable models of Ehrenfeucht theories with arithmetic types”;
- O. A. Tilzo “Different situations of market interaction under monopolistic competition”.
Each of the speakers received a book from the "Comics and Science" series dedicated to Mariam Mirzakhani as a gift. The meetings were held in a mixed format: in person at the Sobolev Institute of Mathematics and online. The conference was attended by about 70 people from Germany, Iran, China, Russia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Ukraine.
