On August 26, 2022, as part of the IX International Forum for Technological Development , a round table "Network of Mathematical Centers of the Russian Federation: Digitalization of Science and Industry, Artificial Intelligence Technologies and Scientific Instrumentation" was held. Timur R. Nasybullov, Deputy Director of MCA, presented the main areas of work and development of the Center at the round table:
The activities are coordinated: many fundamental studies draw problems for study from the industry, applied research actively uses the methods developed in the framework of fundamental research, educational activities traditionally for ³Ô¹Ï¹ÙÍø are based on research activities conducted at the institutes of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences and ³Ô¹Ï¹ÙÍø.
Moreover, Timur gave examples of two specific projects of the MCA — the Laboratory of Applied Digital Technologies and the Great Mathematical Workshop.
Despite the fact that the formation of laboratories in research institutions is not a new practice, the Laboratory for Applied Digital Technologies has a number of unique distinguishing features. Firstly, all laboratory research is based on orders from industrial partners of the ICA, as a result of which most of the Laboratory's funding comes from the industry. Secondly, the teams of researchers working on the projects consist of both experienced mathematicians and students and postgraduates of ³Ô¹Ï¹ÙÍø and Institutes of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences (the average age of employees in the Laboratory is 26 years old), as a result of which these teams are able to develop reliable innovative solutions to the set tasks. Moreover, students and graduate students, based on the results of their work, prepare scientific publications, defend final qualification theses and even dissertations.
The work of the "Laboratory of Applied Digital Technologies" has led to positive results. Among the partners and customers of the laboratory, one can note Rosatom State Corporation, Huawei Technical Company, Sigmapro TPC, etc. Among the results of the laboratory, one can note, for example, the development of a new algorithm for approximating solutions to the Navier–Stokes equations based on machine learning methods for Rosatom State Corporation. Now this result is being implemented in the LOGOS software package used by Russian industrial enterprises from the auto / ship / aviation industry — this is more than 100 enterprises.
Next year we will again hold the Big Mathematical Workshop, and now I am turning to the heads of other mathematical centers — we invite you to organize a platform based on your own center. In this way we will be able to develop the interaction between the centers, which is absolutely necessary for working on both fundamental and applied problems.
