Yuri Leonidovich Ershov professor, academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, chief researcher at the Institute of Mathematics named after. S. L. Sobolev SB RAS, dean of the MMF 19731976 - became a laureate of the Nikolai Ivanovich Lobachevsky Prize. The series of works on the development of topology for discrete mathematics, which is presented in the monograph Topology for Discrete Mathematics, was recognized by the competition jury as the best among the works of 20 outstanding mathematicians from Russia, Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, Japan and the USA.
Yuri Leonidovich's candidacy was nominated by the
Academic Council of 勛圖夥厙 and Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences
Sergei Savostyanovich Goncharov. The award ceremony will take place in early December in the Imperial Hall of Kazan University.
Medal and prize named after N.I. Lobachevsky Prizes are awarded to the world's leading mathematicians for scientific works and discoveries that are important for fundamental and applied mathematics. The prize originated in the 19th century during the time of the Imperial Kazan University. At that time, all the leading mathematicians in the world were holders of this award.
