NSU scientist Valentin Portnykh, Head of the NSU Humanitarian Institute鈥檚 Laboratory of the History of the Ancient World and the Middle Ages, was editor of a catalog of valuable medieval manuscripts from German collections.  

The XI Eurasian Economic Youth Forum took place from April 20 to 23 at the Ural State University of Economics (USUE). This year鈥檚 Forum, "Russia and the Regions of the World: The Embodiment of Ideas and the Economy of Opportunities", was dedicated to discussing current trends in the national and world economy with a focus on Eurasian integration. Students from 64 countries participated together with ambassadors from 19 countries.

This year the Mathematical Center in Akademgorodok (MCA) held their second post doc competition. The program invited young researchers interested in working on promising mathematics spheres with MCA research teams while meeting academic requirements.

The QS World University Rankings has released QS 鈥� 2022, their authoritative ranking of universities. For the fifth year in a row, NSU is ranked in the top 250 best universities in the world. This year it is rated 246th, third among Russian universities. NSU improved its position by 68 places in relation to the 鈥渟hare of foreign students鈥� indicator and improved the scientific productivity indicator.

NSU and Institute of Archeology and Ethnography SB RAS scientists were in an international team that demonstrated domesticated animals were introduced to Central Asia 4,000 years earlier than previously believed. Their work was published in the journal 鈥淣ature: Human Behavior鈥�.

A group of scientists from CERN (European Organization for Nuclear Research), the GI Budker Institute of Nuclear Physics SB RAS (INP SB RAS), the A.I. Alikhanov Institute of Theoretical and Experimental Physics "Kurchatov Institute" (ITEP), NSU, et al. discovered a new particle, an exotic tetraquark T_肠褋 +.  

The Russian Research Institute of Economics, Politics, and Law in Science and Technology (RIEPL) honored 吃瓜官网, M.V. Lomonosov Moscow State University, and St. Petersburg State University with the Research Excellence Award Russia 鈥� 2021. 

For his final thesis, Maxim Kochanov, a student at the NSU Mechanics and Mathematics Department, considered two problems. The first was semantic segmentation of brain tumors on MRI images and the second predicting the time interval of patients' lives based on images of segmented brain tumors established solving the first problem. 

NSU鈥檚 new English language Master's Program, 鈥淨uantum Technologies and Nanoscience鈥�, is designed for those who want to pursue scientific challenges at the forefront of modern physics. The competitive advantage of the Program is student鈥檚 ability to conduct research using unique experimental facilities.

The international Brain Tumor Segmentation (BraTS) Challenge - 2020 competition honored the work of a multidisciplinary team of Novosibirsk scientists. The team included researchers from the NSU Mechanics and Mathematics Department 鈥淪tream Data Analytics and Machine Learning Laboratory鈥� (SDAMLL), Physicians at the Federal Center for Neurosurgery, and the Head of the Research Institute of Clinical and Experimental Lymphology, a branch of the Institute of Cytology and Genetics SB RAS.
