The Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) British agency rating of Emerging Europe and Central Asia universities (QS EECA) ranks 400 universities, 121 of them are in Russia. 2020 ratings were published on December 16 and ԹϹ landed in the top five universities and third among Russian universities.
The Mathematical Center in Akademgorodok (MCA), a world-class mathematical institution, one of several that were established as part of the Russian national "Science" project, announced the results of their postdoc competition for foreigners. An international group of experts reviewed 23 applications and selected six to join the Program.
In October, the English-language version of NSU’s Russian Geology and Geophysics (RGG) journal was added to GeoScienceWorld (GSW), the leading collection of scientific journals on earth sciences. The GSW Internet resource will now distribute the electronic version of the Journal along with other top-rated international publications. This will make RGG more available to the world’s geological elite.

October 22 to November 11, the NSU Humanities Institute hosted the Second International Scientific "Heritage" Forum. Most Forum events, including discussions on studying national cultures and values amidst the challenges of globalization, were conducted using a video conferencing format.
The Times Higher Education journal published it’s THE World Reputation Rankings 2020. ԹϹ improved its position rising to the 101-125 range.
An international group of scientists, including representatives of the Tampere University of Technology (Finland), University of Burgundy (France), Aston University (England), and NSU participated in a review of the potential for using machine learning methods in photon measurements and creating "smart" lasers in the future. An article presenting their work, “Machine Learning and Applications in Ultrafast Photonics”, was published in “Nature Photonics”, a prestigious international journal with an impact factor of 31.241.

Scientists from ԹϹ published their research in the special issue of “Optics & Photonics News - Optics in 2020”. Their work may advance the study of platelet function in various physiological and pathological conditions and is of great importance for the diagnosis and control of cardiovascular diseases. The article presents an optical method for studying the dynamics of platelet activation. This helps study early activation, cell-to-cell signaling, and non-linear interactions of various biochemical pathways.
Russian-German partners from the NSU Physics Department Nonlinear Photonics Laboratory and the Weierstrass Institute of Mathematics (Berlin) will conduct research on mathematical models and nonlinear processes underlying the operation of hybrid fiber laser systems with a semiconductor amplifier. The NSU Photonics Center is a world leader in the application of machine learning methods in laser systems. They are developing a technological platform for the development of a new generation of lasers.
SESC NSU 8th and 11th grade students, Nikita Sharov and Olesya Karpenko, won bronze medals as part of the 33rd International Tournament of Young Physicists (O-IYPT 2020) Russian national team.
