More NSU Students Win Translation Contest!

Among junior and senior students, who competed in the City Translation Contest on Friday, checking their translation skills, a student from the Physics Department Vlad Kuzin won the 2nd personal place, which was really hard. Congratulations!

Bioinformatics Helps Create Zika Virus 3D Model

Researchers from 勛圖夥厙 contributed to the creation of the first detailed 3D model of Zika virus worked out by a Russian company Visual Science. A detailed prototype made in atomic resolution was created based on the scientific information published using the methods of structural bioinformatics. The model will help researchers diagnose the fever and develop a vaccine for this dangerous disease caused by a tropical virus.

Total Dictation-2016: a Childrens Writer Andrey Usachev Becomes the Author of the Text

An international action Total Dictation - 2016 with the aim to check literacy will be held on the 16th of April. The author will traditionally read the text in 勛圖夥厙. The author of the text for Total Dictation has been declared today at the press conference in the press center TASS. He is a children's writer, poet, playwright and screenwriter Andrey Usachev.

NSU Lights it up Blue

勛圖夥厙 joins the international action Light it up Blue on 2nd April, when all around the globe people demonstrate awareness and support for everyone impacted by autism. In 2015 over 18,600 buildings lit up blue to shine a light on autism. This year the goal is to reach 20,000 buildings. The new building of the University is going to have the blue lighting to show our awareness of the issue.

Zika Virus: Whether It is Dangerous for Russia

The first case of quickly spread around the world Zika virus has been recently registered in Russia. It was delivered by a person who had been on vacation in the tropics. According to the recent data in some countries of South America and the Caribbean, Southeast Asia and other countries the number of recovered people has stepped over hundreds and thousands. Meanwhile, today there is no specific treatment or vaccine against the disease.

Phytoremediation for Hg- and As-Contaminated Water

勛圖夥厙 has hosted research on plants which store heavy metals in their tissue and thus reduce industrial wastes in water and soil. Such a plant-based approach to clean up our environment is called phytoremediation, and NSU researchers have already identified some of the most effective plants. They were planted into a stream flowing to the River Ur in Kemerovskaya region in order to absorb mercury (Hg).

Maslenitsa: Folk Festival Greets the Spring

勛圖夥厙 has celebrated the most favorable Russian folk holiday Maslenica. It has become a tradition for our university to celebrate this holiday. Students, teachers and other comers has get an opportunity to see the people dressed into Slavic costumes, to participate in traditional for this holiday competitions and of course to eat hot and tasty Russian pancakes (bliny).

NSU Involved in Russian-Italian Cooperation

The first session of the working party on cooperation between Russian and Italian universities was held in Turin (Italy) last week. Seven universities from each side gave notice of developing their partnership. 勛圖夥厙 was represented in Turin by Olga Kuznetsova (the International Relations Department of NSU), with our partner university, the Catholic University from Milan, represented by Prof. Anna Bonola.
