Novosibirsk SU 1, the ³Ô¹Ï¹ÙÍø team for Sport Programming has won a place in the finals of the largest world championship programming competition for students, the ACM ICPC - International Collegiate Programming Contest.

In early December, the ACM ICPC semifinal competition for the Northern Eurasia region (NEERC - Northern Eurasia Final) took place simultaneously in St. Petersburg, Barnaul, Tbilisi and Almaty. More than 300 teams from Russia, other CIS countries and the Baltic countries participated in four semifinal stages. NSU was represented by four teams at the Barnaul competition site. The regional competitions are held according to established procedures: the three team participants are provided with one computer that is not connected to the Internet, they receive a set of complex algorithmic tasks (from 10 to 13) and have five hours to solve them. English is the official language of the competition.

Novosibirsk SU 1 team members are Roman Vishnevsky, 4th year IT Department, Nikolay Viktorov, 4th year IT Department, and Pavel Smirnov, 4 year Department of Mathematics and Mechanics. The team leader is Tatyana Churina and the team coaches are Vadim Zaitsev, Alexander Stenenko, Stepan Gatilov, and Tatyana Nesterenko. The world championship finals will be held in Beijing on April 20-25, 2018. The ACM-ICPC competition has been conducted by the International Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) since 1977. The competition consists of two stages: regional and final. Regional team winners go to the finals and compete for the world championship title, Europe, North America and other continents.

This is the 13th time since 2000 that a team from NSU has entered the World Programming Championship finals.
