NSU Graduates Describe Process of “Programming” Anxiety

Scientists used game theory to explain the emergence and evolutionary adoption of a non-adaptive trait for modern society, such as increased anxiety, at the genetic level in people. They showed that human anxiety could be a result of continuous hunting of dinosaurs for them.

ԹϹ Participates in Study of Radioactivity in Novosibirsk Water

Scientists at NSU and the A.A. Trofimuk Institute of Petroleum Geology SB RAS (TIPG) received a large grant from the Russian Science Foundation and the Novosibirsk Regional government. For the next three years, the scientists will study the processes by which the radionuclide composition of waters is formed.

NSU Lecturer Develops Program to Identify Diabetes of the Young Type

NSU Lecturer Alla Ovsyannikova, won a Russian Federation Presidential Grant for young Doctors of Science and an award for outstanding scientific achievements from the Novosibirsk Regional Government. For more than 10 years she has been researching identifying diabetes types of the young at the Institute of Cytology and Genetics SB RAS. Next year she plans to introduce a computer program to serve as a practical application for her research. There is no analogue for this program in the Russian Federation.

Novosibirsk Scientists Determine Date for Arctic Settlement by Humans

Scientists have discovered the oldest traces of modern humans in the Arctic dating back 40,000 years ago. The discovery was made studying animal bones found at the Paleolithic complex in the Lower Ob region using the accelerator mass spectrometry (AMS) method at the Center for Collective Use «Accelerator Mass Spectrometry NSU-NSC».

An 11th grade student at SESC NSU Alexandra Taksanova discovered interactions of long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) with miRNAs in corn. This will be useful when creating new plant varieties through genome editing and conducting new molecular genetic studies for other organisms.
