For his final thesis, Maxim Kochanov, a student at the NSU Mechanics and Mathematics Department, considered two problems. The first was semantic segmentation of brain tumors on MRI images and the second predicting the time interval of patients' lives based on images of segmented brain tumors established solving the first problem.

The international Brain Tumor Segmentation (BraTS) Challenge - 2020 competition honored the work of a multidisciplinary team of Novosibirsk scientists. NSU scientist Valentin Portnykh, Head of the NSU Humanitarian Institute’s Laboratory of the History of the Ancient World and the Middle Ages, was editor of a catalog of valuable medieval manuscripts from German collections.
The XI Eurasian Economic Youth Forum took place from April 20 to 23 at the Ural State University of Economics (USUE). This year’s Forum, "Russia and the Regions of the World: The Embodiment of Ideas and the Economy of Opportunities", was dedicated to discussing current trends in the national and world economy with a focus on Eurasian integration. Students from 64 countries participated together with ambassadors from 19 countries.

The QS World University Rankings has released QS – 2022, their authoritative ranking of universities. For the fifth year in a row, NSU is ranked in the top 250 best universities in the world. This year it is rated 246th, third among Russian universities. NSU improved its position by 68 places in relation to the “share of foreign students” indicator and improved the scientific productivity indicator.
NSU and Institute of Archeology and Ethnography SB RAS scientists were in an international team that demonstrated domesticated animals were introduced to Central Asia 4,000 years earlier than previously believed. Their work was published in the journal “Nature: Human Behavior”.
Scientists at NSU’s Natural Sciences Department Protein Engineering Laboratory developed a software pipeline that predicts the effects of mutations on proteins responsible for cancer cell resistance to chemotherapy. Their results are published in the prestigious international “Journal of Biological Chemistry”.
The Russian Research Institute of Economics, Politics, and Law in Science and Technology (RIEPL) honored ԹϹ, M.V. Lomonosov Moscow State University, and St. Petersburg State University with the Research Excellence Award Russia – 2021.
Johns Hopkins University, one of the leading universities in the world and home to a major coronavirus research center, developed a COVID-19 Contact Tracing online course. The Course provides an understanding of how to stop the spread of coronavirus. The English-language version is very popular on Coursera with over a million participants in just a few months. In response to the high demand, the University looked for partners in different countries to translate the Course and adapt it to reflect local conditions. ԹϹ was chosen to be the Russian partner.
