NSU Researchers Study How Proteins Collide with DNA

Researchers at the NSU Natural Sciences Departments Laboratory of Protein Engineering studied what happens when moving DNA polymerases, the proteins that copy genetic information, collide with other proteins that are tightly attached to DNA. The results of their work were published in the Swiss journal Genes.

NSU MA Graduate Research Helps Assess Poverty in Zambia

Owen Siyoto, an MA graduate of the Big Data Analytics & Artificial Intelligence Program at the NSU Mechanics and Mathematics Department, completed a thesis applying the learning transfer and ridge regression concepts to satellite imagery to predict poverty in Zambia.

NSU Students Develop Application for Registering Classroom Attendance

NSU Mechanics and Mathematics Department Freshmen, Mikhail Tyutulnikov and Konstantin Nosorev, have developed an application that will automate the registration of student classroom attendance. Using a mobile device with an NFC module, the application is connected to student ID cards. The teacher installs the application that will respond to the touch of the student ID and send a list of those present to the teachers personal account on a website.

SESC NSU Participates in International Mathematical Modeling Competition

An SESC team participated in the international stage of the International Mathematical Modeling Challenge (IMMC) for high school children. Two teams from Russia were among the 53 teams with representatives from 30 countries taking part in the traditionally remote competition.

Scientists Investigate Effect of Corticosteroid Hormones on Heart Surgery in Children

Russian scientists were part of an international team that conducted a study on the role of corticosteroid hormones (dexamethasone) on complications and mortality in children undergoing surgery for congenital heart defects.

Novosibirsk State Universitys academic year begins as usual on September 1. Classes will be conducted in person in compliance with all safety rules for preventing the transmission of coronavirus.

NSU Graduate Develops Module Evaluating Quantum Platforms for Blockchain Mining Algorithms

Artem Grigorovich, a graduate of NSUs Department of Information Technologies, developed a performance evaluation module that supports the launch of test algorithms used in blockchain technology on several quantum platforms simultaneously. This will help developers track the progress of existing quantum platforms and use the most productive to solve blockchain mining problems.

The Mathematical Center in Akademgorodok will serve as a platform for coordinating cooperation between three institutes of the SB RAS and the Huawei company

Three institutes of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences  Sobolev Institute of Mathematics, Institute of Computational Mathematics and Mathematical Geophysics, A. P. Ershov Institute of Informatics Systems  and Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. (Russia) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU). The Mathematical Center in Akademgorodok will become a centralised platform for communications and launching joint projects.

SESC NSU Student Wins Gold at International Chemistry Olympiad

The 54th International Mendeleev Chemistry Olympiad for high school students took place in mid-July. Hosted by the Lomonosov Moscow State University Chemistry Department, it was the first to be held remotely with 130 students from 27 CIS countries, the Baltic States and South-Eastern Europe, participating. Stepan Epifantsev, a 10th grade student at SESC NSU, was a gold medalist.

NSU Professor Sergei Nikonov, Head of the Laboratory for Biomedical Applications of Quantum Materials, Devices, and Systems, proposed a fundamentally new concept for inactivation of viral pathogens using photodynamic therapy (PDT).

Scientists Identify Genes Associated with Chronic Musculoskeletal Pain

Scientists at the NSU Natural Sciences Department Theoretical and Applied Functional Genomics Laboratory and Institute of Cytology and Genetics Laboratory of Recombination and Segregation Analysis, together with foreign colleagues, proposed a non-standard approach to the study of the genetic foundations of chronic pain.
