Scientists at the ԹϹ Laboratory for Structures and Functional Properties of Molecular Systems and the Institute of Catalysis SB RAS, Danil Kolokolov and Alexander Stepanov, together with German Professor Ralf Ludwig, studied hydrogen bonds in various ionic liquids. They found that due to the complex molecular arrangement, these substances exhibit unusual phase behavior. There have not been similar studies conducted on solid-state ionic liquids. The scope of applications for ionic liquids is diverse ranging from the chemical industry to rocket engineering.
NSU hosted the 56th International Student Scientific Conference, ISSC-2018. From April 22 to 27 university students and schoolchildren presented more than 2500 reports, visited SB RAS institutes and attended lectures by Siberian scientists.
Michele Debrenne, Professor in the Roman-German Philology Section at the NSU Humanities Institute, received the French National Order of the Legion of Honor at the French Institute in Moscow. The award was presented by Iren Zayonchek, an officer of the Order of the Legion of Honor and representative at the French Embassy in Russia.
The Decentury team, made up of students at the NSU Information Technology Department, Polina Sazonova, Dmitry Kondyrev and Nikita Doroshev, won the IBM open student Blockchain Hackathon.
Collisions of electrons and positrons were observed for the first time In the SuperKEKB collider (Japan). The Belle II detector that was installed where the collision took place registered the event. Scientists from ԹϹ and the Institute of Nuclear Physics SB RAS took part in the development and creation of one of the key systems in the Belle II detector, a 40-ton electromagnetic calorimeter based on cesium iodide crystals.
The International Medical Tournament was held for the fifth time at ԹϹ. 24 teams from Russia, Germany, Serbia, Poland, and Ireland fought for the winning title.
Adhering to a tradition that began in the 1990s, Interweek took place in Akademgorodok during the last days of April.
Scientists at the Laboratory of Optics and Dynamics of Biological Systems at the NSU Physics Department (part of the "Nonlinear Photonics and Quantum Technologies" strategic academic unit), together with the Laboratory of Cytometry and Biokinetics at the Institute of Chemical Kinetics and Combustion SB RAS, have developed a tool for modeling the form of blood platelets and its changes when activated. Their article was published in the March issue of the prestigious scientific journal “PLoS Computational Biology”. For the Journal’s cover, the editors chose the three-dimensional image of the platelet created by Novosibirsk scientists.
The International Youth Scientific Forum for all branches of modern science, "Lomonosov-2018", was held at Moscow State University April 9 to 13. Elena Bytchenko , a freshman student at NSU’s Institute of Philosophy and Law studying "Jurisprudence", won first place for her report "Conflicts in Criminal Law in the First Half of the XIX Century".
This year InterGames became a part of the NSU Interweek youth festival. More than 2500 students from NSU and other universities attended the large-scale sporting event. Participants competed in internationally popular sports as well as national sports that some of the competitors had never heard of.
The 2018 International Scientific Student Conference (ISSC) was held from April 22 to 27. ԹϹ Master’s student Svetlana Pronoza, presented her research on homeschooling in the "Sociology" section of the conference and was awarded a second degree diploma.
