916-th out of 22,000 World Universities

Twenty two thousand best world universities were ranked by a special center providing “the most comprehensive university rankings available, which are trusted by students, academics, university administrators, and government officials from around the world”, CWUR, in Saudi Arabia. Among the first 1,000 best universities there were included only three Russian universities – MSU (48th position), SPb State University (285th position) and NSU (916th position). Thus, NSU is ranked among top 4.2% out of more than 22,000 universities in the world.

According to SWUR, if we turn to the rating for universities in BRICS countries, NSU enters top-100 at 91st position.

The top 1,000 universities in the rating are running almost neck and neck. Compare the total NSU score of 44.38 points with that of SPbSU, 46.49, which is at 285th position with the difference of only 2.11 points, and MSU – 48th position with only 12.04 points higher.

The Center analyzed data of 22,000 world universities, and the first three places are occupied by Harvard, Stanford and MIT.

The universities are ranked based on 8 indicators:

1) Quality of Education, measured by the number of a university's alumni who have won major international awards, prizes, and medals relative to the university's size [25%]

2) Alumni Employment, measured by the number of a university's alumni who currently hold CEO positions at the world's top companies relative to the university's size [25%]

3) Quality of Faculty, measured by the number of academics who have won major international awards, prizes, and medals [25%]

4) Publications, measured by the number of research papers appearing in reputable journals [5%]

5) Influence, measured by the number of research papers appearing in highly-influential journals [5%]

6) Citations, measured by the number of highly-cited research papers [5%]

7) Broad Impact, measured by the university's h-Index [5%]

8) Patents, measured by the number of international patent filings [5%]

In terms of the quality of education, NSU takes 147th position in the world; the quality of faculty – 210+.

NSU Rector, Mikhail Fedoruk comments, “NSU entering top-1000 of SWUR is certainly the result of implementing the program of increasing competitiveness in the world educational community. The program has been working at our university for a year and we have already launched a number of projects aimed at increasing our positions. I think the maximum effect, however, is to come out in the flesh onwards, which will improve our positions and status in this rating significantly. The pleasant fact is that we take 3rd position among Russian universities in all the international ratings steadily.”
