The task to develop such a strategy has been set before the university management at the scheduled meeting of the NSU Supervisory Council.
The NSU Supervisory Council headed by Sergei Belousov, the CEO of Acronis, held its meeting in the course of NSU’s 55 anniversary celebrations. The Council is a new strategic body at NSU aimed at increasing the university competitiveness. Its 11 members, power officials and representatives of scientific and educational institutions as well as big businesses, include Alexander Povalko, RF Deputy Minister for Education and Science, Alexander Aseev, Chairman of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Oleg Fomichev, State Secretary, Deputy Minister of Economic Development of the RF, Dmitry Verkhovod, General Director of OJSC “Tekhnopark of Novosibirsk Academgorodok” and others.
During their meeting, the members of the Council discussed a number of topical issues concerning NSU development such as ways of improving students’ English skills and their training, interactions with alumni and employers, approaches to NSU endowment management, establishment of the Institute of Technology at NSU and prospects of integration between NSU and the research institutes of Novosibirsk Scientific Center.
“It is essential that we should work actively on further integration between NSU and the research institutes. No matter which organizational setup we choose or who heads it, it should be highly effective for both, the university and the institutes,” said NSU Rector Mikhail Fedoruk.
“We are considering different variants of integration, either to follow the way of Moscow State University or to create a National Research Center similar to “Kurchatov Institute”. Some important steps forward have been made in this direction as NSU has signed framework agreements with the institutes hosting our basic chairs. All the directors supported a more thorough integration and did not think twice about the offer,” adds Mikhail Fedoruk.
At the end of the meeting Sergei Belousov concluded, “We have not made any final decisions yet as the issues are quite complicated. We have just appointed those responsible. On the part of the Supervisory Council it is Alexey Ponomarev, Vice President of Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology, and on the part of NSU it is Rector Mikhail Fedoruk.”
The next meeting of the Supervisory Council is scheduled to be held late November/early December. By this time the university management is to develop integration strategies including NSU, Akademgorodok’s research institutes and Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology.
