NSU welcomed a delegation from our strategic partner in Japan, Tohoku University. The meeting was devoted to measures and steps on the way of developing partnership between NSU, Tohoku University and research institutes of SB RAS.
NSU Rector Mikhail Fedoruk and Executive Vice President of Tohoku University Toshiya Ueki spoke highly in praise of developing Russia-Japan scientific relations. The steps should include a more scaled student exchange between the universities and regular seminars organized by leading researchers who work in related fields. The meeting resulted in preliminary agreements that are to prepare a Memorandum of organizing student exchanges for graduate and postgraduate students. In addition, a new joint Russian-Japan Laboratory on Asian Humanity Research, which will be based on remote research, is announced to be launched soon. Such prominent scientists as Prof. Yelena Vojtishek, the Chairperson of the Oriental Studies Chair, and Prof. Oka Hiroki, the Director of Center for Northeast Asian Studies at Tohoku University, are to take charge of the Laboratory. The project was supported by both universities with great enthusiasm. The negotiations were accompanied by reports on the results of joint Russia-Japanese work prepared by NSU representatives and researchers from SB RAS institutes. The Oriental Studies Chair is a good example of how collaboration can be conducted with lectures of visiting professors from Tohoku University and seminars for NSU students studying Japan. Such work has been successfully done for seven years and is to go on. Planned for the near future is the October visit of our colleagues from Tohoku University. The usual program is expanded to conduct a joint seminar for Russian and Japanese postgraduates (in English). It will be devoted to burning issues for the countries of Asia-Pacific Region. Such initiatives are certain to boost Russia-Japan collaboration.
