According to the international rating Webometrics, NSU became the fourth university of Russia after Moscow State University (MSU), Saint Petersburg State University (SPSU) and Moscow State Engineering Physics Institute.
In the world rating Webometrics published not long ago, NSU took the 806th position among more than 21.000 universities around the world. It exceeded its showing by 30 positions compared to the previous publication of the rating.
Webometrics is considered one of prestigious rankings of universities conducted by Cybermetrics Lab, which is a part of the National Centre of Information and Documentation at the Higher Scientific Research Council in Spain.
University performance is evaluated in the rating according to some criteria, including the number of pages on the university site, the volume of scientific publications loaded and the site citing. The leaders of the rating are 3 American educational institutions: Harvard University, Stanford University and Massachusets Technological Institute. As for Russian universities, in the first thousand of the rating are MSU (102th position), SPSU (595th position), NSU (806th position), Saint Petersburg Polytechnic University (820th position). Tomsk State University takes only the 1028th position.
The rise of NSU position is brought about by the increase of the volume of references published on the official site and the number of scientific publications of universities which are a part of a group of 10% mostly cited papers in the relevant scientific field. It should be noted that NSU has a large potential of a further rise in the rating Webometrics due to such index as openness. For that it is necessary to load the site with various materials including methodical materials, synopses of thesis and monographs.
