NSU to Collaborate with Skoltech

NSU administration welcomed the delegation from the Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology (Skoltech) headed by its President, Professor Edward Crawley. Members of the Skoltech delegation also included Vice-President for Academic Affairs and International Relations, Professor Mikhail Myagkov.

During the meeting the parties discussed future collaborative activities of NSU and Skoltech. They outlined a number of ways for collaboration including a dual degree program. Starting from September1, 2015, NSU students will have an opportunity to receive Skoltech degrees, which will help to enrich the academic programs offered at NSU. New courses and programs to appear will be developed under the supervision of Skoltech experts.

The NSU Rector, Mikhail Fedoruk shared information regarding plans to establish a new Technological Institute in collaboration with the Technopark of Novosibirsk Akademgorodok. The new academic institution is to develop not only engineering but also students’ business competencies including skills to manage innovative businesses effectively. The Rector invited the visitors to step into the process of creating the institute.

“Skoltech cannot achieve success without collaborating with Russian universities,” said Mikhail Myagkov, “so, cooperation is important for both parties and we need you even more than you need us.” He invited NSU to cooperate within the CDIO framework launched by Skoltech in 2004 and aimed at project-oriented learning in the field of engineering.

Alexey Okunev, the NSU Prorector for External Affairs, believes that all the proposals discussed “perfectly agree with the NSU development strategy and planned activities in years to come.”
