Copies of old Chinese warriors’ statues from the Terracotta army of the Chinese emperor Qin Shi Huang-di (227-201 B.C.) have been presented to the Section of Oriental Studies of the Humanities Department of NSU by two graduates.
The statues were installed in the passage of the Laboratory building. They were brought from China. Their total weight is 1200 kg. They were made by Chinese specialists in reconstructed old technology of making and baking clay keeping to all specific features of the originals. Their peculiarity is the reconstructed colouration, corresponding to the old originals.
The statues were bought by the NSU graduates Alexei Pronin and Igor Moskvitin with their own means.
At the grand opening ceremony of the exposition the professors and students and some guests from China were present.
“We are happy that the opening of the exposition has coincided with the Congress of the University graduates because the exposition became possible thanks to the gift of the graduates. We are grateful to them for giving such wonderful gifts to the Oriental Studies Section and the University”, said Elena E.Voitishek, Head of the Chair of Oriental Studies.
The Vice-Rector (Research) of NSU Sergei V.Netesov thanked the graduates for the gift,”On behalf of the Rector I would like to express admiration for the graduates who have made the wonderful present. Now there is little room in the passage for the statues but when the construction of the new building is over, the statues will be transferred there and it will be one of the symbols of the Humanities Department”.
