Embrace NSU with a Warm Hug

A “Hug Your University” flash mob was organized at NSU in the frameworks of a regional event, which was conducted on the same day in various Siberian universities at Tomsk, Irkutsk, Omsk, Kemerovo, Krasnoyarsk, Barnaul and, of course, Novosibirsk.

More than 200 students, their instructors and the university staff virtually hugged their university not only on the outer side, which was the original idea, but also from inside. They had a jolly run in a chain from the main entrance through the passage on the second floor up to the laboratory building. After getting out they returned to the main university building and circled it. The organizers entertained the participants passing a long thread with some candies attached and distributed firework sparklers. To crown it up, the participants burnt the sparklers and chanted the name of the university.

This event at NSU can be dated back to 2007. Then, during the International week festivals, a graduate journalist student (Natalia Gilina) suggested joining hands with each other and hugging the university. When the scheduled flash mob event was over, the inspired participants held a short rehearsal of another coming flash mob “NSU together”, which is to take place on 27 September while NSU celebrates its 55th anniversary.
