NSU has welcomed Olga Golodets, the Deputy Prime Minister of RF, who came with a working visit to inspect the construction progress.
In the beginning, Olga Golodets visited the construction site where the new building for NSU is being erected. The construction is progressing on schedule: building #1 framework is being completed with roofing and facade works. Windows, stained-glass panels and the heating system are to be set up soon. The building’s delivery is planned for the end of 2015. The building, which is the first stage development, occupies an area of 55 300 m2 and is going to accommodate a series of rooms and halls for learning and the administrative block.
Then the high guest was invited to participate in the working meeting with the NSU authorities, Novosibirsk region governor ad interim Vladimir Gorodetsky, some representatives of the Ministry of Education and Science of Russia and the Ministry of Education, Science and Innovative Development of the Novosibirsk Region.
During the meeting, the NSU Rector Mikhail Fedoruk informed the audience about implementing the program on increasing the university’s international competitiveness. He said, “In the frameworks of the Top-100 program at NSU we implement a number of various projects aimed at increasing our performance targets in the international ratings. Most funding goes to support the initiatives on developing advanced educational programs, on increasing the international popularity of NSU and, of course, on selecting the promising youth.”
While discussing the directions of NSU development, Olga Golodets advised to increase the educational potential of the High School of Physics and Mathematics at NSU. “It’s not necessary for the school to be a purely boarding school. We should develop a system when students can come to classes and then go home, as in ordinary schools, because staying at a boarding school is a certain limiting factor for both children and their parents. There should be a mixture of opportunities here.”
Another main topic for discussion was a new scheme for the interaction of NSU and the Research Institutes of Akademgorodok. There is actually a high degree of integration, but the Institutes subordinate to the Federal Agency for Scientific Organizations with NSU subordinating to the federal Ministry of Education and Science. Such a discrepancy creates a number of administrative issues during the interactions. The participants of the meeting discussed some variants of a possible way out including merging NSU and some research institutes or creating a common coordinating authority.
