NSU is holding the 1st International Academic Council session whose members include scientists coming from the leading universities and research centers throughout the world.
This session at NSU has gathered such prominent scientists as Prof. Grigory Dianov (a professor at the University of Oxford), Prof. Vladimir Zakharov (a professor at the University of Arizona and an award winner of the 2003 Dirac Medal), Prof. Vladimir Zelman (a professor at the University of Southern California), Prof. Alexandr Kostochka (a professor at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign), Prof. Eiji Ohtani (a professor at Tohoku University), Prof. Gregory Falkovich (Weizmann Institute of Science, Israel), Vladimir Shiltsev (the Director of the Accelerator Physics Center at Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory, Batavia, IL, USA). Leading Akademgorodok scientists and scholars at the International Academic Council are represented by Prof. Elena Boldyreva (the Chairperson of the Solid State Chemistry Chair at NSU and a Chief Researcher at the Institute of Solid State Chemistry and Mechanochemistry SB RAS), Academician Valentin Vlasov (the Director of the Siberian Institute of Chemical Biology and Fundamental Medicine), Academician Anatoly Derevyanko (the Chairperson of the General History Chair at the Department of Humanities at NSU and the Director of the Institute of Archaeology and Ethnography SB RAS), Prof. Sergey Netesov (a professor at NSU and the NSU’s Pro-Rector for Research).
The International Academic Council at NSU has gathered with the aim of assessing NSU's activities and giving advice about fulfilling the Program of the Competitiveness Enhancement of NSU among the leading international universities and centers for research and education.
The members of the Council are elected for the term of 5 years and are supposed to be international experts in the field of higher education, academics with an international profile and leading scientists in top-priority research areas developed at NSU. The Council currently includes 15 members, 9 of whom are NSU alumni.
The Council is to develop recommendations on the issues of the strategic development of NSU and improvement of its competitiveness enhancement, provide expert estimation on the NSU development prospects as well as evaluate the research areas and academic reputation of NSU curricula and analyze the structure of NSU compared to the academic systems of the leading foreign universities.
The session is devoted to discussing a number of strategic issues on the development of NSU with the NSU management. The Council will be submitted reports on implementing the program of the Competitiveness Enhancement of NSU, the university collaborations with different foreign universities and its positions in the international rankings. Discussions will also touch upon the viability of creating academic councils on granting Ph.D. degrees at NSU and measures on establishing and promoting the university on the international market of education services.
The International Academic Council shall meet as needed but not less than twice a year.
