The 25th International Mathematical Student Olympiad took place at the end of July in Bulgaria. The ԹϹ team successfully participated, significantly improving its results from the previous year.
Scientists at the joint laboratory of ԹϹ and the Institute of Molecular and Cellular Biology SB RAS and the Institute of Cytology and Genetics SB RAS, together with American and Chinese colleagues, decoded the DNA of domesticated and wild foxes. This made it possible to identify the genes responsible for the animal’s good nature. The prestigious scientific journal “Nature Ecology & Evolution” published the results of these geneticists’ work.
The Belgian publishing house Brepols published NSU Historian Valentin Portnykh’s Latin text of the Treatise "On the Preaching of the Cross" by the Dominican monk Humbert Romansky. The book is the 279th volume in the Corpus Christianorum Continuatio Medievalis Series and, according to the publisher, the only one with a Russian author. A translation of the Latin text of the Treatise by Portnykh was published two years ago by the "Aleteya" publishing house.
ԹϹ has improved its position in the International Academic Ranking of World Universities (2018). The ranking is prepared by the Center for World-Class Universities (CWCU) at the Institute of Higher Education, Shanghai Jiao Tong University.
On July 27 scientists from the NSU Observatory captured a rare astronomical phenomenon, the total lunar eclipse. In order to do this they traveled 200 km from the City because the sky over Novosibirsk was covered by clouds.
In 2018, the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) rated more than 4,000 higher education institutions in 54 subjects related to five spheres of knowledge (natural sciences, engineering, life sciences, social sciences and medical sciences).
ԹϹ scientists have proposed the hypothesis that the Alay Valley at an altitude of 2,300-3500 meters above sea level is one of the earliest human sites. This assumption makes it possible for scientists to identify tools found during an archaeological expedition in 2017. Confirmation of the exact age of the site will help with the selection of new artifacts.
The results of the work were published in the prestigious scientific journal Nature Communications.
ԹϹ launched their Siberian Summer Program "Business in Russia: Understanding and Surviving". Program participants are from Germany, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, the United States, Venezuela, Indonesia and Russia. This is the first time the NSU Department of Economics has conducted this type of program designed primarily for foreign students.
The agreement establishes an education program that will award a double diploma as well as including a student exchange that does not award a diploma and an exchange program for researchers.
Foreign student applications open for
this two year MA Program.
