The Research Department of NSU has conducted a formal ceremony devoted to the opening of a new Microbiology and Virology Laboratory.
The Lab was created in the frames of a government mega-grant under the supervision of a renown expert majoring in molecular biology of cancer, the head of the Cell Proliferation Laboratory at the Engelhardt Institute of Molecular Biology (RAS), the head of a laboratory at the Department of Molecular Genetics at Lerner Research Institute in Cleveland Clinic (USA) and the laboratory of Molecular Biology at Case Western Reserve University, Professor of Molecular Biology Peter Chumakov.
The Microbiology and Virology Lab deals with searching for, selecting and creating new oncolytic viruses, followed by evaluating their oncolytic properties. The staff carefully observes all the generally accepted requirements on biological safety even though they are working with viruses which are safe for humans.
