Photonics Center Aston-NSU Wins Erasmus+ Support

The International Photonics Center Aston-NSU under the supervision of Prof. Mikhail Fedoruk, Dr. Sergei Kobtsev and Prof. Sergei Turitsyn, which was founded with the support of the Megagrant program “Physical platform of nonlinear photonic techniques and systems”, has won support of the Erasmus Plus European Programme on academic mobility.

Erasmus+ is the new European Union program for Education, Training, Youth, and Sport. Set to last until 2020, the program supports transnational partnerships among Education, Training, and Youth institutions and organizations all other the world

The world photonics market now is a $420 billion USD market and grows by approximately 6-8% per year. The field of laser optics-related science and technology being one of the most highly developed sectors in Russian high technology, Technology Platform Photonics is a tool for bringing together various parties - government, business, science & education - to identify innovative challenges, develop programs of strategic research and identify ways to implement it. The lack of trained specialists hinders the effective use of laser technologies in various areas, and the Technology Platform is supposed to improve the situation by organizing training of skilled researchers and providing the necessary infrastructure.

The Directors of the Photonics Center believe that the new grant will create more opportunities and boost advanced research at NSU, which is the direct responsibility of the Technology Platform Photonics.

In Novosibirsk, the two-year project headed by Dmitry Churkin has the budget of €60.000 and is aimed at exchanging postgraduate students and researchers between Aston University (UK) and NSU as well as creating joint educational programs.
